That's WAY high. I get the soap bar for 1.00 at the grocery store, some stores it's 1.18 (that's the most I've paid). You might be able to find it online for less.

It works out to about .01 per load for my top load machine. (approx 180 loads per batch at 2.00 each batch)

I've read that you can use any soap - you can pick your favorite bar scented soap. Fels Naptha is preferred because of it's stain fighting abilities.

J, did you figure out your cost on this per load? I've only found Fels Naptha for $3.50 a bar. Is that a good price?

Denny and I really like the smell. Smelled really good while making it. Grating the Fels-Naptha bar is what smelled so good. The other ingredients really don't have a scent. If you didn't like the smell you can add the scented oils. Me, well I'm happy with it the way it is.

I'm curious...how does it smell? I always only use "name brand" laundry soap & fabric softener because I like the way they make my clothes smell...I'm big on the fresh/clean scent thing...

So, if I make this concoction, are you willing to come over and show me how to use it? In other words, do my laundry? lol

Next you will be milking cows and churning butter....just kidding.

I did and it works good. I think it's using that Fels Naptha soap instead of some of the other standbys. If you haven't ever used it before it's a heavy duty laundry soap with is really good on stains.

Have you actually tried using it yet? I've been tossing this idea for over a year now (sadly, it's taken me that long to run out of my supply!) but often doubted the effectiveness of homemade cleaners.
